Welcome to 1st Grade!
I am very excited to have your child in my classroom this year. We are going to have a great year in first grade. You won’t believe all the fun things we will get to do this year!
We are going to have fun learning and growing together this year. Your child will be learning many different things in reading, math, science, social studies, technology and much more. Your child will also attend library, gym, music, art, and guidance classes at least once a week.
Drop-off & Pick-up Procedures/Tardies & Attendance
This year all of the elementary schools will be starting at 8:15. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:50. Breakfast students are the only ones that are allowed in the building before 7:50. Breakfast is served from 7:40 – 8:10. The morning bell will ring at 8:05 and this is when the teachers will walk their students down to their rooms. It is important that students arrive to school on time. The warning bell is at 8:13, and 8:15 is the tardy bell. Your child is tardy at 8:15. At that time, they must check into the office before coming to the classroom. It is also very important that your child attends school every day and learns the importance of being on time to work. If for some reason your child must be absent, please notify the office or me.
Students will be dismissed at 3:15. If you are picking up your child every day, we walk out and dismiss on the playground. Please wait for your child outside on the playground. If you would like to pick up your child early for an appointment, please send a note that morning or email me. When you come to pick up your child, I will do my best to have them waiting in the front office for you.
Birthdays & Invitations
If your child has a birthday during the school year, you are welcome to bring in a treat item for the celebration. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate their ½ birthday during the school year. We will celebrate during snack time in the afternoon. Send all utensils, plates, napkins, etc. I do not have these items on hand. Please remember this is not meant to take the place of a birthday party. It is just a special snack.
If your child has a party planned during the year, he/she can hand out the invitations to the class. Please make sure there is an invitation for every child. If it is a boy party all boys should be invited if the invitations are to be passed out at school. The same holds true if it is a girl party. You are also welcome to mail the invitations if you are limited to the number attending. Be considerate of each child's feelings. No one would want their child left out.
Please leave all toys at home. If a student does bring something to school and it is out during class time, it will be taken away and kept until the end of the day. This also applies to toys that may be used outside, i.e. balls, jump ropes, chalk, etc.
Snack & Water Bottles
We will usually have a snack in the afternoon. A snack calendar will be posted and sent home each month. You should send a healthy snack for the class with your child on their assigned day. I usually keep the left over snacks, if they are not perishable, for those days when a child forgets their snack for the class. Your child may also bring a water bottle to stay on their desk during the day. If the water bottle becomes a problem it will be sent home.
When you send money with your child to school for lunch money, book orders, field trips, etc, make sure that you send it in a clearly marked envelope. Put your child’s name, what the money is for, and the amount on the front. This way we can make sure that it gets exactly where it needs to be. Please try and send exact change when you send cash. Place the envelope in your child’s daily folder.
